Resolutions

I've been thinking about my resolutions for the year.

I wanted them to be more than the usual, "Quit biting my fingernails" (I'm 42; it hasn't worked yet) and get in better shape (that's not a resolution; that's my personal mantra). I wanted to be a better person, but that sounds so vague.

This past Sunday I was led to Colossians 3:12-17

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtures put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

I think these are worthy goals, and with some members of my family, I'm going to have to work really hard and pray really hard for these virtues. I have to remember my goal isn't to change them, but to change me.

Keep plugging girl....We are not perfect and need to remember we cannot always choose our relatives but by practicing these virtures we can get by. In other words, God has said in this verse--"You get more bees with honey than with vinegar."
Just remember as the verse says...
"over all these virtures put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."
You may not have choosen the relatives, but someone you love cares for them.
You are right, you can only change yourself....

Love, YFA

That's right. Romans 12 reminds us to "not think of (ourselves) more highly than (we) ought. In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all others." It also says in Romans 14 that just because someone does something differently doesn't make it wrong. (This was the passage I read the morning I attended the memorial service where I danced. I think I was able to dance because of this chapter!)

Love you
